Date your Spouse!

Do you really need an excuse to have a weekend away with your significant other? No? Well in case you do consider this your sign to book a little staycay or vaycay for some quality one-on-one time with your partner!

In our current health climate, it's hard to plan (trust me I get it - I plan everything!) so spontaneity is where it's at.

With mumlife, student life and worklife currently doing me in, and Tim's and my 11 year wedding anniversary we decided that we needed time to reconnect, away from the girls and our favourite city (that's not currently under lockdown restrictions) was just the answer.

We've always been drawn to South Bank in Brisbane for it's location and vibrant night life, and it just so happened that we were able to catch the Brisbane Festival (which runs for the month of September).

We'd never stayed at the Novotel South Bank before but several things struck me as being absolutely perfect for our weekend! The first being its location. They say location is everything - and for what we wanted it absolutely was! It's nestled in behind the Convention centre - just a hop skip and a jump from the vibrant night life of South Bank, but close enough for your morning stroll through the West End markets where you can swing by local artisans and food stalls and grab something to eat, enjoy free live music and sit by the river - it's almost enough to make you remember what life was like before kids!

The second was the staff and the hotel itself, for the friendly staff nothing is too much trouble - I remember seeing one of the reception staff greeting a young family and encouraging the children to borrow some of the cutest little go-karts they have for hire for their younger guests (I made sure to make a mental note because the look of pure joy on their faces was one that would surely translate to our own children too).

I had let the hotel that Tim and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and the unexpected personal touches that were awaiting us in our Junior suite were so thoughtful. No detail had been spared - from the bottle of bubbles chilling in the fridge to the share platter of delicious treats and the hand signed card we really did feel like special guests.

We rounded out our stay at the Novotel Southbank with a romantic dinner at the hotel's restaurant - Spice Central which offers modern Australian cuisine in an a-la-carte dining experience, using fresh and locally source produce. Let me tell you the food was sensational, and the bar staff know how to make a mean cocktail! They even surprised us with a beautiful dessert acknowledging our anniversary. Needless to say - I was feeling the love, just not from Tim on this occasion (and I'm ok with that)

The rooms are clean, well appointed, and quite with the hotel having ample secure, undercover parking (something that can be quite the expensive commodity in the city these days).

My hot tips for things to do while you're staying at the Novotel Brisbane Southbank can be both family friendly if you have the kids in tow, or if you're lucky enough to get a weekend away with your partner you can slow it down and do some additional adults only things!

  1. Take in a show at QPAC - There are quite a few awesome things on at the moment including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Boy Swallows Universe

  2. Stroll through West End and onto the West End Markets to enjoy breakfast/brunch/lunch from one of the delicious food stalls

  3. Stroll back through West End and stop in at any one of the awesome cafes or bars (Cafes: The Gunshop Cafe, Billykart, Morning After) (Bars: Covent Garden - Gin Bar, Archive Beer Boutique, The Bearded Lady [I have a lot more faves, so if you want more recommendations let me know!])

  4. Relax poolside in the hotel's 20m heated pool or take advantage of the fully equipped gym and yoga terrace with room to stretch and re-energise.

  5. Take in the city views from the Southbank foreshore as the sun sets on another magical day in Queensland's south east.

So whatever it is that brings you to Brisbane for a little break from the normal routine, (like a romantic rendezvous or a mini family holiday) the Novotel is the ideal place to rest your head and weary legs, perfectly situated for a weekend full of great memories <3
